to decorate

New stuff in our apartment. A home is supposed to make you feel good. When it comes to these two guys from Bolia, it was love at first sight.

Halloween, yes indeed

To be honest, I did not feel al that creative when I first started planning my outfit for this years Halloween-party. Maybe A's very ambitious idea made me feel performance anxiety? I had some vague ideas about being a two-headed monster, but in the end I made my decision after watching this tutorial on Youtube. Of course I was going as Edward Scissorhands!

Since I saw this movie for the first time back in 1998 it has been a favourite of mine, and as it was the first Tim Burton movie I saw it's where my infatuation of his work began. Anyway, this felt as a perfect choice for costume, and an easy one.Turned out pretty good, I think!

Our apartment was turned into a workshop before the party, where A assembled his costume, I sprayed my hair black and our friend T turned green.

Ed, a decapitated monk and Princess Fiona.
And then we were off to the party! The place was beautifully decorated with pumpkins, a smoke machine, nasty food-stuff and in a corner stood R2D2 and projected scary silent movies from the 1920s. People had really cool costumes - my favourites were the two guys dressed up as Luke Skywalker and one of the Sand-people. Actually, come to think of it, there really was quite a lot of  Star Wars-themed things going on... Anyway, it was a really fun night!

Awesome costume!

We danced a bit to this song. Actually Weird Al was a recurring feature this night.

A had his arms full so having a drink was a bit tricky...

Please excuse the horrible quality of the photos in this post, I'll try to improve...

Interesting to know maybe, is that black hairspray should not be used on bleached hair...  After washing my hair 6 times my high-lights are still grey. But it actually looks rather good!

House

Today we came pretty darn close to buying 1/2 a house. Well, I'm not sure exactly how close we came but close enough to feel really close. I'm not very upset over this even though I of course allready had furnished all of it in my mind, but to mark this semi-event and lift my mood up a bit I'm posting this video with one of TV-historiy's better moments. Ejoy.

five

1. When no one can see or hear me I...
Sing and dance.

2. I never leave home without....
My iPod

3. The name of my blog comes from...
Some late-night-idea about the fact that magpies allegedly collect shiny things in their nests. And the blog were supposed to be a collection of things I like. And I also really like magpies. They're beautiful.

4. If I dared I would...
Book a trip to somewhere far away where I would need to be in an air-plane for longer then 3 hours. Actually there's a lot of things I'd do - being more brave is a goal of mine

5. In ten years...
I'll live in some other country.

television-vexation

OK. Just a short comment about Norweigian TV-programme... why oh why do they show reruns from earlier in the week at prime time on Saturdays? Do the people setting the shows think we have bad short time memories? Are they lazy?

sunbeam

My new coat. It's yellow. To replace the sunshine that is so scarce here these days. But to day I gor a glimpse! Colours are important in the autumn, the more the better.

weekend with a friend

This weekend one of my oldest (not in age) friends came visiting us from Sweden. Sooooo nice! V got to see what Stavanger is like and we had loads of fun, even though I got a cold on Sunday.

Amsterdam, yes please

I week ago I came home from a trip to Amsterdam with my work. I had such a great time! Not only do I have fabulous colleagues, I also got to see some of the best things (in my field) that this cool city has to offer. Here follows a selection of the ca 700 pictures I took during the four days...

yes, it's pretty
Onesize - raw materials and beautiful light in this studio
well organised food-court in De Bijenkorf
colourful meeting area in Spaces
re-recyclable office interior - Nothing
Nothing
And there were some time for shopping...

...and for lunch, at Momo
We visited the show room of Moooi. Love it
Moooi
More Moooi

We went on a boat tour
We ate some really great food in a fabulous restaurant
And we visited the show room of Materia. Lots of fabrics and textures...

 This is examples of 3D-printing
you just got to touch everything
wood is good
At the Henieken Experinece they had a ceiling made of bottles. Pretty.
And at their bar I thought about trying to order a Guinness but I didn't dare in the end.

arty

I've been really busy with work and travelling so I have not updated for a while. But rest assured, I'm preparing some really good posts about my trip to Amsterdam...
Anyway, today I want to share a few pictures of some new street art close to my work. There's a lot of this awesome stuff around here and I really like it!

another bird-dress

This is what I put on the other week when the weather was so great and sunny! I bought this dress almost a year ago on a h&m sale. I had had my eye on it for a while - because of the adorable print - but when I came home with it I realized that the top two buttons came undone as soon as I used it and that the sleeves where a bit too tight. I hung on to it though, thinking I could use the fabric for something. But in the end I decided to sew the buttons shut (if you know what I mean?) and cut the sleeves of. After that this is definitely one of the go-to pieces of my wardrobe and it will probably continue see a lot of use this fall and winter.

long neck

I bought this a couple of months ago, but it's not until now when autumn really has set its teeth in Stavanger that it feels right to wear it.The colour scheme is great and very autumn-appropriate, in contrast with the actual motif. But you can never go wrong with animal-print.

the magic powder

Remeber how I was trying to find nyponsoppa in the stores here in Stavanger to no avail? Well, my very kind mother brought some to me when we met in Oslo! And even though this led to some suspicions at the security control at the airport on my way home ( the girl at the desk knew about rose-hip tea, but not soup) and they had to scan my bag twice to check this mysterious powder I am so glad I got it. I hope this can be something I can feel like eating for breakfast, cold or hot. Yesterday I tried it the way I sometimes ate it as a child, hot and complete with vanilla ice-cream and tiny macaroons. Nom-nom.
