I don't feel very inspired just now, and I have hard time figuring out what to write about... I have some plans on a blog re-make for next year, though, It will be completely magical! Or at leat good. Yep.
In the mean time, have a look on my lovely way to work these days... I have not seen daylight in weeks, but I hope for a glimpse or two this weekend... Yay.

Christmas-ifying

I've kept the Christmas decoration at home pretty simple this year. And I say "I" since the other resident of this abode has no real interest in decoration what so ever, so it's pretty much up to me to decide. No red, no Santa, no reindeer. Well honestly, I could not resist a couple of reindeer... It actually feels good knowing how easy it will be to restore the apartment to its natural state in the beginning of January.... Anyway, here's some details!

Ceramic princess Leia and the robot candle-holder is now accompanied by a white Christmas star

A gingerbread-house and a hyacinth - at least it smells like Christmas!

Crying girl and two of my white beasts got some red and green m&m's. Lucky them.

And here's what I spend my friday night doing... Can't wait to decorate these, it's the best part of baking

In the calm of the woods

At times I just want to curl up under a blanket in a small cabin far away from civilisation. Lucky for me my friend H invited me and E and M for a weekend in just such a place, to spend some quality time. Since I only meet these old friends of mine about once a year I thought it was a terribly good idea.

So I went travelling by taxi, plane and bus x 2 for 6,5 hours to be picked up by H in Strömstad. And then we indulgeed in relaxation, conversation, good food and old memories for a while. Some of the topics that were discussed: economy, physics, knowledge, bad haircuts, E-type and education. Good times!

We managed to select a very interesting weekend when it comes to weather and woke up on Sunday morning to the sounds of wind tearing down the house. Or at least almost. We actually got away with just a couple of hours of  power outage. And the flight home was not as bad as I had feared.

This should be our new tradition, right?

in my shoes

A couple of weeks back I went to Stockholm to hang out with M & S for the weekend. And I still have not written a post about it. I've been such a bad blogger lately. How sad for all the millions of people depending on my words each day...  Anyway, here's one of the things I bought for myself then! (And yes, the shopping-limitations I put up for myself a while back did not work out so great. OK, but not perfect...).

Cheap-ass shoes. They're lovely! So comfortable.

DIY: just another flowerpot

The other day I ran in to a flower-sale at my local super market. Honestly, it's at this store where I buy most of my plants, even though they quite often look a bit sad. But I'm not afraid of a challenge. Anyway, this time I bought - among a bunch of other stuff - an orange Marguerite complete with pot and all for the reasonable prise of 9.90 NOK.

The pot itself turned out to be pretty far away from what I usually go for when it comes to pots so I decided to give it a make-over. Enter the decoupage-glue. And all kinds of decorative textile-paper-stuff. Hard to chose.

Since I've noticed that I have a tendency to buy flowers in a pink or purple colour-scheme lately I went with the one to the right.

A generous coat of glue later, and this is the result. Easy-peasy. You can do anything with decoupage-glue. Anything!

a Sunday

Now when A's finally back from 3 weeks away on a course I can go back to fully appreciate the weekends. This one we've spend mainly relaxing an catching up, he's been cooking and fixing our computer and  I've been complaining that three week is to long for him to be away. It's good that he's back.
Today we went looking at another house but we wont buy it - to much work with this one. It was pretty though, right by the harbour. Maybe the next one!
Now A's making lasagne, and I'm reading blogs. Soon we'll get back to our Matrix-marathon.
Happy sunday!

A non-post

Well, it seems like my computer and Blogger doesn't want to cooperate so I can't write all of the witty and beautiful post I had in mind today... I'm just blogging from my phone - in-between word feuds. Today I've bought pretty flowers - that I can't show pictures of - and I've been listening to Florence and the Machine - can't share any videos either... Anywho, it's been an ok day...

a lot on my plate

Last Saturday my friend K and I went on a nice but rather unsuccessful flea-market tour. This was the only item I came home with. On the other hand it was really cheap (20 NOK) and how could I resist an ornamental plate with such architectural theme?

eve

I have shown illustrations made by Nicoletta Ceccoli on this blog before, and she's still a big favourite. Her images are always filled with beauty and fantasy but at the same time they're sort of eery and uncomfortable. A while back I found this new case for my iPhone (I think the name of the store is Harry Camping) with a illustration by her, and I'm happy as a pig in mud. I smile every time I look at it.

feline

It's November and I think this might be the month I start missing having a cat the most. Long, dark evenings that are best spent indoors would definitely be better with a warm cat-body curled up in my lap. When I miss the people back in Sweden I can easily call, but Osiris' purring is actually way better IRL.

to decorate

New stuff in our apartment. A home is supposed to make you feel good. When it comes to these two guys from Bolia, it was love at first sight.

Halloween, yes indeed

To be honest, I did not feel al that creative when I first started planning my outfit for this years Halloween-party. Maybe A's very ambitious idea made me feel performance anxiety? I had some vague ideas about being a two-headed monster, but in the end I made my decision after watching this tutorial on Youtube. Of course I was going as Edward Scissorhands!

Since I saw this movie for the first time back in 1998 it has been a favourite of mine, and as it was the first Tim Burton movie I saw it's where my infatuation of his work began. Anyway, this felt as a perfect choice for costume, and an easy one.Turned out pretty good, I think!

Our apartment was turned into a workshop before the party, where A assembled his costume, I sprayed my hair black and our friend T turned green.

Ed, a decapitated monk and Princess Fiona.
And then we were off to the party! The place was beautifully decorated with pumpkins, a smoke machine, nasty food-stuff and in a corner stood R2D2 and projected scary silent movies from the 1920s. People had really cool costumes - my favourites were the two guys dressed up as Luke Skywalker and one of the Sand-people. Actually, come to think of it, there really was quite a lot of  Star Wars-themed things going on... Anyway, it was a really fun night!

Awesome costume!

We danced a bit to this song. Actually Weird Al was a recurring feature this night.
dancing  Luke with hippie-hair
A had his arms full so having a drink was a bit tricky...
fuzzy but still sharp!
silent movies make good art
Please excuse the horrible quality of the photos in this post, I'll try to improve...

Interesting to know maybe, is that black hairspray should not be used on bleached hair...  After washing my hair 6 times my high-lights are still grey. But it actually looks rather good!

House

Today we came pretty darn close to buying 1/2 a house. Well, I'm not sure exactly how close we came but close enough to feel really close. I'm not very upset over this even though I of course allready had furnished all of it in my mind, but to mark this semi-event and lift my mood up a bit I'm posting this video with one of TV-historiy's better moments. Ejoy.

five

1. When no one can see or hear me I...
Sing and dance.

2. I never leave home without....
My iPod

3. The name of my blog comes from...
Some late-night-idea about the fact that magpies allegedly collect shiny things in their nests. And the blog were supposed to be a collection of things I like. And I also really like magpies. They're beautiful.

4. If I dared I would...
Book a trip to somewhere far away where I would need to be in an air-plane for longer then 3 hours. Actually there's a lot of things I'd do - being more brave is a goal of mine

5. In ten years...
I'll live in some other country.

television-vexation

OK. Just a short comment about Norweigian TV-programme... why oh why do they show reruns from earlier in the week at prime time on Saturdays? Do the people setting the shows think we have bad short time memories? Are they lazy?

sunbeam

My new coat. It's yellow. To replace the sunshine that is so scarce here these days. But to day I gor a glimpse! Colours are important in the autumn, the more the better.

weekend with a friend

This weekend one of my oldest (not in age) friends came visiting us from Sweden. Sooooo nice! V got to see what Stavanger is like and we had loads of fun, even though I got a cold on Sunday.

Amsterdam, yes please

I week ago I came home from a trip to Amsterdam with my work. I had such a great time! Not only do I have fabulous colleagues, I also got to see some of the best things (in my field) that this cool city has to offer. Here follows a selection of the ca 700 pictures I took during the four days...

yes, it's pretty
Onesize - raw materials and beautiful light in this studio
well organised food-court in De Bijenkorf
colourful meeting area in Spaces
re-recyclable office interior - Nothing
Nothing
And there were some time for shopping...

...and for lunch, at Momo
We visited the show room of Moooi. Love it
Moooi
More Moooi

We went on a boat tour
We ate some really great food in a fabulous restaurant
And we visited the show room of Materia. Lots of fabrics and textures...

 This is examples of 3D-printing
you just got to touch everything
wood is good
At the Henieken Experinece they had a ceiling made of bottles. Pretty.
And at their bar I thought about trying to order a Guinness but I didn't dare in the end.
