a week end

Yesterday it came! the thing I bought from the very talented photographer Jessica at Vintageportalen.se- a beautiful, mysterious, fairy tale print, that I think will look really good on a wall in the apartment. I need to find a better frame, and this picture really doesn't make the photo justice, too much reflection and bad rendering of colour, but you'll get a general idea. It's a tree in a room.

Maybe I'll put it on the wall next to the new black clock...
This week end has been a very realxed one, but after a quite stressful week that feels just fine. Yesterday I met some friends and had coffee in a colourful backyard and then some food in a restaurant with a design concept I did not approve of. And I cut my hair. I might post a picture some day. And I saw a bird fly underneath the bridge.

breakfast club

The most important meal of the day... that was what I was thinking about when I went grocery shopping just now. I have had the same thing for breakfast for maybe 3 years now - except week-ends - and I tend to get a bit grumpy if I don't have the standard items at home. But now I feel it's time for a change. For something new and delicious to look forward to when I fall asleep. Any ideas? Anyone? A recipe for good home-made müsli maybe? The best smörgås ever?
This is what I ended up with today...
On to a completely different topic: Today I bought something from another girl with a blog, and I really look forward to this thing finding its way to my mailbox. I'll keep you in suspense so far, but I will definitely tell you about it when I get it. I sometimes prefer buying things on-line and get it delivered to my home because 1: You never really know when it will show up so it's  exciting every time I check the mail, and 2: I always try to forget what I have ordered so it will come as a surprise - like a gift!

Oh - I have heard that the comment function does not seem to work. I have made some changes in the settings so hopefully it will now. Please try again!

Top 3 - week 33

1. Going kayaking with K - even though it rained, the water felt really warm, and Norway is so beautiful!

2. Mingel & Movie-night at T's friends house. Nice people, nice movie - "The invention of lying", can recommend it!
3. Going out for Thai-food on Sunday, it is just a good way to end the week. And it's relatively cheap.

I did it my self

Last week end I planned  a couple of projects in the apartment for this week. I have not had time to do as much as I planned - I've had so many other fun things on my schedule, but this weekend I've been a bit more productive. I have not started on the big project - a make-over on the sofa table - but a few small DIY's have been done. The idea for the first one I stole from a link at IKEA-hacker, a blog that really inspires me. It is a toothbrush-holder-turned-jewellery-stand-DIY, that clever girl Maja have come up with, based on the IKEA toothbrush stand Lillholmen. It was a while since I first saw it, but it's not until now that I completed my own jewellery-stand. It's not as professionally done as Maja's -I simply used a nail and hammer to produce the small holes, she used a drill. I am however satisfied with the - slightly crocked - result. I am all for storage that gives better overview and organisation of small things.

Just buy a toothbrush-holder and make holes for the ear-rings!
The second DIY for the week-end is a very easy one - I just painted an old clock I found on Fretex. Fretex is the equivalent to the Swedish "Myrornas" - the second hand stores of the salvation army. I go there quite often to see what I can find -  clothes, fabric or just nice things to re-make or keep as they are. I liked the shape of this clock - the colour not so much. After a coat of paint I think it will fit nicely in my living room. I might ad some embellishments later on, but for now I'm happy with it the way it looks.
to begin with...
making progress...
on the wall!

We'll see when I get around to do the rest of the projects I have planned. I have some good ones in mind.

Pay-day

In Norway the 20th is the day you get paid, so yesterday I spent an hour or so after work shopping before helping T move into her new apartment. This was only some spontaneous shopping, but I actually found quite a lot. I think I am most happy with a white blouse with a lovely collar that I found on second-hand shop Fretex. Unfortunatelly there are not many good vintage stores here in Stavanger, or I have just not found them. There are not really any good flea-markets either - very sad. It does not seem to be a culture for sedond-hand clothes here, I don't know. I guess that is one of the things I miss with Göteborg.
Black top with long sleeves - H&M, White second-hand blouse - Fretex, Pink top with white dots - VILA, Black oversized cardigan - Monki.
Well, I guess I should not do any more clothes-shopping this month. We'll see. I am pretty sure the black cardigan will be a favourite this fall. If it wasn't 25 degrees in the apartment now, I'd put it on right away.

Wet Wednesday

It rained this morning, so I put my Wellington boots with flowers on. Then I walked to work and had a nice and productive day. When I was walking home the rainy day had turned into a sunny day so on my way across the bridge I decided that it would be nice to take a swim. I am lucky - there is a place 5 minutes from my home where a blue ladder leads from yellow stained rocks into blue water.

When I got back from swimming the sun was still shining, so I could sit on the balcony and have my dinner. I burned the tuna-burgers a bit - and my left index finger too - but then I almost always do.

I like the balcony. It might be my favourite room in the apartment.

After a while it was time to get back inside.

I listen to this song right now, and I really like the video. There be cows!

monday should be the best day of the week

Last week I decided that a goal for this autumn is to try to make something special and nice out of every Monday. To make a good start of every new week. More of the positive thinking!  Last week was quiz-Monday so that one was easy. Today I went to a spinning class for an hour after work. That might not sound as a very special and nice thing to do, but then you have not considered that an hours work-out entitles you to self pampering with home spa treatments and banana-milkshake and peanut-butter sandwiches for dinner. See? And before I hear you say something - nuts are considered a very good source of healthy fat and I said banana-milshake, there was a whole fruit in it! And only just a little bit of honey.

On the same topic - here is the music video of today, a re-make of an old favourite that never gets tired, here in the lego version. OK Go - Here it goes again.

Sunny Sunday

A thing that I really like to do is spending time taking care of my plants. I have many plants in the apartment and on the balcony. I get all impatient during the spring and can't wait until I can start with my balcony projects, growing herbs and flowers. The balcony was quite pretty all summer up until we went away for a couple of weeks during the vacation, but strangely enough it looked rather sad when we came back. So today  I decided it was time for a balcony-make-over. The sun was shining from a clear blue sky and the local garden centre had a sale so the conditions was perfect to say the least.

This was a bargain!
Work in progress
Nice and tidy

Now I am going to try to find a good audio book on iTunes. I'll get back to my addiction to audio book some other time, but now I'll leave you with a link to a great song and video by Fever Ray that really reminded me of something I read by H P Lovecraft, for some reason.

Friday the 13th

Managed to not have any Friday-the-13the-related accidents yesterday, so maybe it's all just a big hoax. I did how ever eat nice food at the Indian restaurant Dehli with a group of friends. The evening then continued with some drinks at Sting and then ended with half an hour or so with spontaneous dancing and beer on the grass at Valbergstornet.

Today I have been as lazy as you can be on a Saturday, with the exception of going shopping stuff necessary for a couple of DIY-projects I have planned for this week. I am going to have the apartment for myself so some serious craftiness can be expected. I'll get back to that.

smile

One thing that really put a smile on my face today was this blog that I came across after a friend of mine recommending it for another friend on Facebook. It is just so extremely cute but also creative in a spontaneous way. It gave me al sorts of ideas for photo projects, but I don't really have such a charming object. Instead I give you this little guy, hanging out on the railing for the access-balcony below mine. Living on the edge. I so wish I could have a cat in my apartment!

every-day luxury

no 1: The automatic massage chair at work... and being encouraged to use it often
no 2: Being member in a scuba-diving club 10 minutes from home
no 3: Having this view on my 20 minutes walk to the office:

To give this Thursday some extra color and shine I want to share this song and video
It includes dragons, unicorns on clouds and fluffy aliens, so it can not get much better.

Nine to five! Or rather eight to four...

Today I've had my first day at the office after my vacation. It was nice as usual, but during the day I came up with a small list of things that I decided could make life at work even nicer if I had them. So after work I did a little shopping and treated myself with a new binder, a fancy mouse-pad, a big notebook, a red pen and a small toilet-bag to keep necessary items such as lip balm and chewing gum in. It is really the little things that makes life easier and more fun. OK, so sometimes it is the big things, but one should not underestimate the small stuff. Like a toilet-bag with flowers on or a city-themed mouse-pad.

Oh,  I just realised that today is the one-year-celebration of me living in Norway! Hooray! To celebrate that I'll give you a Norwegian word that I saw today and really liked: "Vifte" means fan (fläkt) and I know that now since I saw a very pretty yellow fan in a window when I was shopping. Vifte sounds so much lighter and nicer than the Swedish equivalent, don't you think?

ready set go

This Sunday has been the last day before I go back to work after the summer holidays. I have mostly just spent time preparing for a new week at the office and trying to get all the things done that I should have during these 4 weeks but haven't gotten around to yet. I have also tried to get this blog a bit prettier, but there is yet room for improvement.
Another thing that I have done is trying to find a nice video with the Carling Family  that I saw on a jazz-festival earlier this year, and when I was looking around I found this one and it just made me so happy. Enjoy.

To begin with...

testing testing

Hello there people - and I am guessing that you are already a friend of mine or you would not have found your way here. This thing - writing a blog - will probably take some time getting used to, but I'll do my very best. To begin with, just to get started, I am going to share this wonderful music video from The Black Keys that I came across today. It made my forenoon (it is a word - promise!) and I hope it will amuse you. Good song, too.
